Life Skills of Walled Lake provides programs, services, and activities to consumers, which will assist them in obtaining independence, employability and integration into the community. All individuals served are developmentally disabled with medical and/or physical challenges and are 26 years old or older. Our staff is MORC trained to work with individuals who are medically and/or physically challenged. The staff incorporates Gentle Teaching strategies while carrying out activities chosen by the individuals.
Our program tailors plans to meet the needs and desires of the individuals served. The “Person-Centered” process is utilized in every component. We focus on socialization, therapeutic and prevocational training. Some of the training and programs in which the individuals participate include adult daily living activities, communication, social and recreational programs, day activity and community awareness. A full kitchen is available for enhancing cooking skills. Sensory and Craft rooms are available to let participants express their creative side. Center based jobs are designed for those who have the ability and desire to work. Our programs community experience involves all individuals and each participant gets into the community on an average of once a week. The purpose of these services are to provide experiences to individuals, which will enable them to become more independent and fully integrated into the community.
On-site services are provided by a Program Director and Instructional Staff. Life Skills Centers, Inc. is a non-profit tax exempt corporation who has been accredited by CARF.
