Macomb Community Life Sills is a structured day program designed to teach, assist and enable developmentally and physically challenged adults in reaching their dreams through their highest level of independence possible. Activities offered seek to encourage independence in the areas of activities of daily living, communication and socialization. Skills are worked on throughout the day at the facility as well as participation in community experiences.
Macomb Community Life Skills began in 1981 in Shelby Township under Northwest Regional Center. This program became the first facility of Life Skills Centers, Inc. It grew to serve 72 individuals.
In 2000, it was decided that the facility could better serve the participants in a smaller “open workshop” type setting. As a result, the program was divided. One half remained in Shelby Township and is known as Shelby Community Life Skills and the other half, Macomb Community Life Skills, moved to the current location in Clinton Township. Presently Macomb Community Life Skills serves fifty individuals daily.
